Dunnock portrait

This male Dunnock made a pause in between bouts of singing. He looks pretty dapper sitting on the spruce branches, almost smiling to the camera.

  1. A lovely picture. I have noticed that although Dunnocks are normally very shy, a singing male will often stand his ground when stared at and photographed, as if his song defending his territory is making him bolder.

  2. This is a great photo, the dunnock is one of my favourite birds, I love it's song, and when I first started bird watching I was so happy when I could tell it apart from a Sparrow.

  3. Thank you Ralph, I agree with you, they are normally skulking, but more happy to ignore you if they are singing.
Thank you Amanda and welcome to the blog. There is something very satisfying in learning to identify birds. I remember learning the lovely dunnock song (I was familiar with them as wintering birds in Spain, where they kept quiet).

  4. What an outstanding portrait. I seldom see Dunnocks now which is a great sadness. I, too, love their song.
